Curiouser and curiouser

Florence+the Machine is hands down my all time favorite band. Everything is so raw and powerful yet ethereal. If I were to create music, this is exactly what it would sound like. I couldn’t believe that I was going to see FATM today. It’s been a dream for years to see them live.

Upon arriving there, my friend noticed a car from freaking Ontario, Canada parked right next to us. He pointed it out and my eyes widened. We were talking about how crazy they were for driving here and were wondering if they came down here just for Florence. 

We got in line and the couple were right behind us. My friend looked at me asking if he should talk to them. I gave him the “I don’t know” look. He did it anyway. Thank god for his curiosity. It sparked a conversation between all of us. They were from Czech Republic. The boy is a chef who has worked under top, prestigious chefs. The girl is currently in school studying journalism hoping to write for a lifestyle magazine. They’re currently taking off a year to travel around the states. How cool is that! I live here and they’ve seen way more than I have. They told their story of going to Canada (just because they wanted to visit the states I believe), spent a few months working there to save money, and took off couch-surfing. Coincidentally earlier today, my friend was telling me about couch-surfing. All you need to do is find the website, sign up at a host’s home, and voila! You have a free place to live. Well, you have to be traveling for reasons of course.The couple, my friend, and I stayed together for the remainder of the night after the concert where we further discussed cultural differences, their travels, food, fashion, and other random things. 

Needless to say, FLORENCE WAS AMAZING. WORDS CANNOT EVEN EXPLAIN. I’m so used to seeing her on the computer screen. Then seeing her in real life, it was like a freaking HD 3D IMAX movie. Lucky for us arriving about 2 hours early, we were about 3-4 people from the stage, which was awesome considering the show sold out. (Originally, I wanted to camp out 4-6 hours before the show so we could be at the front front. My friend had class. I told him to skip. He wouldn’t so that was a no go. Yeah, I’m crazy. Judge me.) Everything felt so surreal tonight. I wanted to cry when she opened with ‘Only If For The Night.’ I couldn’t believe all of this was happening. During ‘Rabbit Heart’, a good amount of the girls were lifted above the crowd. There I was about 3 feet away from her. My hands started shaking. I was so nervous. She was right there in front of me dancing and singing. I swear I died and went to Mount Olympus with the gods. 

Tonight will be one of those things I won’t forget. It was strange how all of these little things add up. A few weeks ago, I was talking to my friend about traveling around the world, exploring new places. He told me about his experiences traveling alone and meeting strangers. Strangers where you’re oddly comfortable telling them a part of your life story, and they’re comfortable with sharing their experiences. No one speaks of shame. Him having the chance to intern in California, met various strangers where he connected with. I told him I was jealous! Haha. In Texas, it’s not often where you meet strangers who are open arms. Better yet, it’s like a 1 in 15 chance to meet someone in Europe! 

Everything seems to be connecting and I don’t understand. I have a strong feeling that every little thing that comes up keeps telling me to go off and have an adventure! Then again, correlation doesn’t necessarily mean causation. You know what, screw that. If the signs are there, if the urge is there, do it. We’re all too young to stop living.

My other friend, also Thanh’s brother, Cuong (thisiskenn.tumblr.com) helped me do my hair! I am so excited for him going to culinary school next semester. 

I’m ecstatic about working with them later in the future. It’s liberating having a few friends who share the same passions. I couldn’t be happier.
